Addressing the current ecological crisis, we must foster a stronger, more considerate relationship with nature, and the relationship between humans and nature is best seen through the ways we work on the land and at sea, and how we eat.
Our proposal for the Croatian pavilion for the Expo Osaka 2025 centers on food production highlighting the necessity of transition to a more resilient, sustainable, and self-sufficient society.
The "Živi živu zemlju / Live (the) living land” pavillion is conceived as repository of agricultural and fishery knowledge and expertise, offering an effective model to motivate domestic producers, attract new investments and strengthen Croatian agriculture while improving its products' position in the global market.
The central notion of the concept is a table. The table as a driver and anchor of the pavilion space.
The table as a place for gathering and collecting multidisciplinary knowledge and skills. The table as a place for connecting agricultural production with other economic sectors. The table as a living organism, a place of international and intergenerational exchange of ideas and culture. A place where acquired knowledge is valued, a place for sharing experiences and stimulating creativity.
The table as a sample of Croatian land. The table as four agricultural and climatic regions of Croatia. The table as a representation of food and people. The table as a kitchen and dining room. The table as a konoba (tavern), a place for socializing, fun, and song, but especially – the table as a school!
